(1) Revenue and expenditure
The city’s revenue budget for 2009 is 7341.3 billion dollars. The largest revenues come from its own financial resources, making up 60.31% of the total annual revenue budget. Among them, taxation revenues constitute 46.39%, non-taxation revenues 16.59% and the subsidized revenues 39.69%. Education, science and culture accounted for the largest part (25.45%) of the annual expenditure budget totaling 845.88 billion dollars.

(2) Labor force
In 2008, the average labor population estimated 707,000 persons; 55.73% of them were male and 44.27% female. The non-labor population estimated 537,000 persons. The labor participation rate achieved 56.8%: 65.5% male and 48.7% female. The labors aged between 30 and 34 made up the highest proportion of labor force: 85.5%. The unemployment rate was 4.3%.

(3) Consumer Price Index
The city’s consumer price index in 2008 was 105.73. Compared to that of 2007, it rose by 4.15% and hit the highest in 16 years.

(4) Family income and expenses
The current receipt per household in 2007 averaged 1,188,933 dollars and the current expenditure per household 948,180 dollars. The annual growth rate of consumer price index in 2008 was 4.15%, and the annual growth rate of construction price index reached 12.34%.

(5) Religion
In 2008, there were 122 registered religious communities, 291 Buddhist temples, and 171 Christian churches located in Kaohsiung. The registered members of these communities totaled 79,733.

(6) Organizations
An organization refers to an independent body established for common purposes, upon common relationship and with common acts and legally registered with the permission of supervising authorities. It can be classified into two types: professional and social organizations. In 2008, the civic organizations in Kaohsiung numbered 2,282 (not including 444 labor organizations); among them, there were 1,939 social groups and 343 professional groups. 605 social service and charity groups constituted the largest number of registered civic organizations; 348 academic and cultural groups constituted the second largest, and 240 sports groups the third. These three types accounted for 52.28% of all the civic organizations. The number of international groups totaled 198 and ranked the fourth place.
